You know the pain you feel can't be normal. But it seems like no one else understands.
You've been prescribed intense pain meds, but the side effects are driving you crazy. You don't want to rely on those forever. You're looking for another way.
There is hope. Our brains have the remarkable capacity to create new neural pathways, and since all pain is processed in the brain, adopting a mind-body approach is essential to overcoming it.

your path to pain relief starts here
Healing is possible and it begins with understanding the neuroscience of pain and the mind-body connection.
Hi, I’m Barrett
Neuroscience has demonstrated that all pain is processed in the brain. Therefore, our brains have extraordinary power to affect where, when and how much pain we experience.
I take a holistic approach to uncover and understand the conscious and unconscious thought patterns that might be affecting your pain. I’ll help you understand these patterns and teach you new techniques to find relief.
I’m a clinical hypnotherapist and pain management practitioner.
We do know that acute and chronic pain have different causes, but we also know that ALL PAIN is processed in the BRAIN.
Whether we get an injury or a diagnosis, it is the thoughts about our circumstance that determines how our body and our brain will respond. The more fear we attach to our pain or situation, the more we flood ourselves with chemicals(adrenaline/cortisol) that constrict and contract our bodies which can cause more pain. Ultimately this begins the process of training our brains to continue this cycle of pain.
My story.
As a kid, being part of a team meant everything to me. I played three sports year-round, which provided me with a sense of structure and belonging I deeply needed with a chaotic home life. But at twelve, right after a traumatic family event, I dislocated my knee three times. The pain was overwhelming, and each dislocation filled me with fear. After a final injury, surgery became unavoidable, and my days of team sports came to an end. I was devastated.
The physical pain I endured was compounded by the fact that my dislocations were unpredictable and as a result, I was extremely fearful of the next time. These two elements are important to note as we now know that experiencing high levels of physical pain along with high levels of fear can significantly increase the likelihood of developing chronic pain. It is also important to note that the injury came after a traumatic event which we also now know can contribute to the brain misinterpreting pain signals, creating chronic pain patterns.
Not surprisingly, I went on to struggle for the next 2 decades with significant chronic knee, hip and low back pain. It wasn’t until my mid-30s that I finally found freedom from this pain, and it took until my 40’s to fully understand how I had overcome it.
Today, I am pain free. I’ve also helped dozens of clients dealing with chronic physical pain, migraines, insomnia, pain from cancer treatments, grief, and anxiety.
Today, advancements in neuroscience give us a clear understanding of how chronic pain patterns become deeply ingrained in the brain-and, most importantly, how to change them. Using Clinical Hypnotherapy, Pain Reprocessing Therapy, and Mindset Coaching, I’ll guide you to rewire these pathways, helping you move beyond pain and reclaim the life you deserve. This work is transformational, and I’m here to help you experience lasting relief with a method backed by both science and proven results.
